The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized $193,000 in cash smuggled into the country, hidden inside a yogurt carton at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada confirmed the interception on Friday, revealing that officers from the Federal Capital Territory Command uncovered the undeclared cash during a routine baggage check, acting on credible intelligence.

Customs Area Controller Olumide Adebisi identified the suspect as 40-year-old Kamilu Abdullahi Sarina, who arrived in Nigeria on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 951 from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“Our officers acted swiftly on the intelligence report received. During an inspection, they discovered $193,000 cleverly concealed within a yogurt carton in the suspect’s luggage,” Adebisi stated.

The suspect and the seized cash are now in custody as investigations continue.
