The Central Bank of Nigeria has finally extended the deadline for the exchange of old naira notes by 10 days.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor, said the new deadline is February 10, 2023.
This comes as President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) had earlier reiterated his position that there was no going back on the naira redesign project and ruled out the extension of the January 31 deadline for the old N1,000, N500 and N200 to cease from being legal tender.
The President’s position was also supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which insisted that the deadline would not be extended.
With this new extension, Nigerians now have until February 10, 2023, to exchange their old notes for the new currency.
