Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Secures Multi-Billion Naira Projects for Student Hostels

Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has secured a significant infrastructural boost with the approval and commencement of two major hostel construction projects aimed at improving student accommodation on campus.

In an exclusive interview, the Acting Director of the Directorate of Physical Planning, Architect Abubakar Chari, reveals that the projects are being executed under the institution’s 2024 special intervention fund and capital appropriation.

The first project, a ₦4 billion male student hostel, is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement. The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has committed ₦1 billion, representing 25% of the total cost, while the partnering private company, Afri Plus Partners, is providing the remaining ₦3 billion. The agreement has been signed, and all necessary documents, including architectural, structural, and mechanical designs, have been submitted to TETFund for approval. Once the first tranche of funding (₦1 billion) is released, construction will commence.

The hostel is designed as a one-story building with 400 rooms, accommodating 1,600 students (four students per room). The site has been handed over to the contractor, and mobilization is expected once funding is disbursed.

Additionally, the institution has secured funding under the 2024 capital appropriation for the construction of a female student hostel. The project is among the two selected for funding nationwide, alongside Federal Polytechnic Mubi.

The one-story female hostel will contain 72 rooms (36 on the ground floor and 36 on the first floor), each equipped with an ensuite toilet. Each room will accommodate six students, providing a total of 432 bed spaces. The

contractor and consultant have already reported to the institution, and site clearance and setting out are scheduled to begin next week. The foundation work is expected to be completed by March 2025.

Architect Chari expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rector Alhaji Sani Usman for their leadership in securing these interventions. He emphasized that the projects will significantly reduce students’ accommodation challenges and enhance security on campus.

“We appreciate this great development and remain hopeful for more interventions from TETFund and other funding sources to improve student welfare and institutional infrastructure,” he stated.
